Celebrations For Life

When you’re under quarantine, you celebrate the hell outta the small stuff. I turned 42 yesterday, and normally I wouldn’t even care. But life stinks right now and it’s never been more apparent to me that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. So,…

Where Am I?

We’re living in a crazy world. One I barely recognize anymore. I awoke before the birds this morning (not that that’s anything unusual around here) and headed out to Wegmans around 6:45 a.m. (to get there for the store’s 7…

Journey To The Past

April 3, 2020July 15, 2020 Sabrina MannoWhims & WordsLeave a Comment on Journey To The Past

I’m taking a much-needed stroll down memory lane today. I’m not sure how I ended up here because I sat down at my computer thinking about how much I miss church and the peace and solace it offers in times…

Ignorance Is Bliss

Sometimes when I really think about myself as a mom (and how I know nothing), my mind wanders back to when my daughter was a week old. She was a preemie and had just spent a week in the NICU,…

Grateful In April

As we begin a new month of quarantine, I was thinking about what I’m particularly grateful for today. And the word that keeps popping into my head is sickness, or the lack thereof. I’ve talked a lot about sickness when…

To Fail Doesn’t Make Me A Failure

In case you’re wondering, yesterday’s scavenger hunt was a bust. I’m laughing even as I write this because it’s par for the course around here. It’s not the first time I’ve tried to engage my children with a fun activity…

Bananas For Bran Muffins

I don’t share many recipes here but this one deserves a mention. My daughter asked for them this morning and it dawned on me that I haven’t made them in a while: bran muffins. (My husband’s going to be jealous…

Sometimes When It Rains

It’s 7:34 a.m. The birds are chirping away and it’s dark, cloudy, and gloomy outside. But for once I don’t care. Because it’s warm and cozy inside our cocoon and we have big plans for today: baking, Scrabble, family movie…

Mental Overload … And Then Some

March 27, 2020July 14, 2020 Sabrina MannoWhims & WordsLeave a Comment on Mental Overload … And Then Some

I’m struggling today. I can’t seem to muster even a nanosecond of positivity. It’s making me feel so heavy inside and I’m not sure how to shake it off. Writing usually helps but I woke up uninspired today. I think…

Butterfly on a flower for conservation

The word of the day in our home lately is conservation. Now that we’ve been housebound for almost two weeks, it’s interesting (and a little embarrassing) to realize the things we normally take for granted, like how much toilet paper…

About This Site

This blog isn’t solely about parenting. Yes, I’m a stay-at-home mom but I wear many other hats: wife, sister, daughter, chef, baker, chauffer, personal shopper, party planner, cleaning lady, customer service and marketing manager for a local insurance agency, the list is endless. I live so much in my own head and writing is my therapy. I’ve been craving an open, honest, and nonjudgmental outlet for those thoughts, and this blog is it. Why not just keep a journal? Because knowing there are other moms out there going through my same experiences lifts my spirits and motivates me to stay strong. And if I can help and maybe even inspire these women or make them laugh while fulfilling my dream, well, then, that’s a wonderful thing!
