Welcome To The Carbo Load

Poetry challenge day 4: We’re supposed to take a song title, change one word, and make the new title that of our poem. So, in true ’80s fashion—because I’ve been in an ’80s mood since watching the amazing Cobra Kai!—I chose “Welcome To The Jungle” by Guns N’ Roses. Rock on, baby!!

Welcome To The Carbo Load

Goldfish, Doritos, onion rings
Pastas, breads, and carb-y things

Mac n cheese, grilled ham n cheese
Hotdogs, taquitos, ketchup squeeze

Chocolates, s’mores, brownie dips
Cinnamon rolls, gum, and creams of whip

Cupcakes, ice cream, lollipops
Fruit snacks, marshmallows, minty drops

Chicken soup and tikka masala
No veggies in either or she may holla

What a list, oh what a diet
I beg and plead with her, just try it!

No veggies, fruits, barely even apples
Oh, won’t you please just try a sample!

I hope one day her tastes will change
And she’ll discover a culinary range

She’ll leave her carbs so far behind
And give her momma peace of mind

But until then, I’ll wait and see
I’m done, please Calgon, set me free
