April 2021 Poem-A-Day Challenge, Day 11
Interesting idea for today: to write a “prime number” poem, meaning incorporate a prime number somehow. I chose the suggestion to use a prime number of lines per stanza (in this case, 2).
Yesterday my husband and I took the kids to visit one of my old stomping grounds (pre-marriage and pre-kids!) and we went on a hike through the nearby mountain to search for fairies! It felt so glorious and cathartic to be on one of our spontaneous (pre-COVID) adventures again. Fingers crossed for a summer filled with possibilities!
The Fairy Girls
Gnarled roots, a cluttered path
Hollowed logs and swathes of grass
Sticks and stones upon the ground
Magical miniatures all around
Gems and coins and old debris
Tiny houses, come and see
Benches, ladders, a mossy roof
Mirrors, gnomes, blink, and poof!
The pixie trail winds round and round
So many fairies to be found
Who else lives within this wood
This enchanted forest filled with good?
The tooth fairy?
The fairy godmother?
She whispered, I don’t know, mommy
But we’re The Fairy Girls, you and me!
