Still Life

A tree that's broken but still standing

May 3rd. That’s the last time I posted to this blog. So much, and yet so little, has happened since then. Summer was a struggle for me this year, and it tanked my inspiration and creativity. Thankfully, though, my beloved, soul-saving Autumn is just around the corner, and hopefully it will put some pep back into my sluggish step. I’m counting down the seconds.

For whatever reason I woke up today and started looking through the poems I never got a chance to publish during my poem-a-day challenge back in April. I’d forgotten about this one but since it still feels relevant, I thought I’d leave it right here. Hope everyone is (still) staying safe and healthy.

Still Life

I conceal my scars
In the face
Of your harsh scrutiny
Not in fear or shame
But because
You do not deserve
To see the real me

  1. Love this. So short, yet so powerful, heartbreaking even. It reads like a song. Bravo, my favorite one. I keep reading it over and over.
