April 2021 Poem-A-Day Challenge, Day 16
We’re writing a city poem today. Now, usually when I see or hear the word “city,” my mind immediately conjures New York. But the past few days I’ve been reminiscing about another city that’s near and dear to my heart: Positano, Italy. It is the most beautiful and peaceful place I’ve ever been, and I cannot wait to go back (hopefully in two years!).
Positano
Jewel of old Salerno
Upon the Amalfi Coast
A Mediterranean oasis
Pure tranquility it boasts
Snuggled within the Monti Lattari
Along the deep-blue sea
Steep strips of streets and houses
In yellows, pinks, and greens
Ancient ruins and quaint churches
Salumerias and cafes
Nooks and crannies, everywhere
Such beauty does amaze
Lush landscapes filled with lemons
Three cheers for limoncello
Hidden paths and whistling waterfalls
A perfect place to mellow
Calm and quiet days spent wandering
’Cross pebbled shores and sands
Bellies stuffed with Italian treats
Cappuccinos in our hands
Nights out on the terrace
Lulled by the breaking waves
Reveling in the sparkling sights
Cherished memories we did save
For of all the lands we visited
This one did steal my heart
Oh, my sweet, sweet Positano
I adored you from the start
