April 2021 Poem-A-Day Challenge, Day 18
Today’s prompt is to write an ekphrastic poem, which is a piece based on another work of art, whether a painting, photograph, sculpture, mixed media, etc. (I know, I’ve never heard of this, either). For whatever reason, my mind went to my husband’s oat bread, a perfect piece of art if ever I’ve seen (or tasted!) one. He first made this for a Game of Thrones viewing party I hosted back in 2019 and it was delicious! There’s something so earthy and homey and luscious about a bread filled with fruity treasures and this one doesn’t disappoint. If you can’t already tell, it’s a favorite of mine.
Oat Bread
Apples, apricots, and dates
Complement your classy crumb
Crusty coat, sumptuous center
So chewy, soft, and sweet
A smear of butter, a dash of salt
Or paired with white and Brie
A treasure trove of fruity goodness
This bread of beauty can’t be beat
