April 2021 Poem-A-Day Challenge, Day 27
We all have something (or someone) that we believe makes a difference in our lives. A guiding light, if you will, that illuminates our path through the darkness and somehow makes our merriest moments even brighter. I found mine not long after I moved to New York City more than 20 years ago. Here’s my attempt at a “believe” poem.
My Light Along The Way
When the rains poured down
You asked me to remember
And begged me to believe
When the cold loneliness set in
You sang to me a February song
And urged me to be brave
When fear and defeat
Were my only companions
You told me not to give up
Because I was loved
When the path forward
Was hazy and unpaved
You rang for me
The bells of New York City
And graced me with
The prayer so I felt safe
When friends and lovers
Bruised and deserted me
You raised me up
And played for me a symphony
When the world collapsed
And became too much to bear
You were my bridge
My bridge over troubled waters
Through all things
Great and small
You were my one bright light
Along the way
