My Enemy Is Not Me

April 2021 Poem-A-Day Challenge, Day 28

Holy cow, this one was a doozy! Today’s prompt is to write a remix poem, which essentially means rewriting one of my earlier pieces. You’d think that would be easy but nope. Anyway, I chose “My Enemy Is Me,” which I published April 7, 2021. Hope you enjoy the remix!

My Enemy Is Not Me

A close, charitable confidant
That little voice inside
Building me up with words of love
Of confidence and pride

You’re true and you’re courageous
Advocating every day
With empathy and honesty
It should always be that way

‘Bout time I finally flipped the script
To faith and dignity
And without a doubt appreciate
That my enemy is not me
