City Girl In The Rearview

“Art is to console those who are broken by life.”

― Vincent van Gogh

My family and I spent this past Sunday in Manhattan–we had tickets to see the Vincent van Gogh exhibit. Watching his paintings come to life was surreal and peaceful and uplifting; I was moved to tears a handful of times during our brief visit. He was such a tortured soul, van Gogh, and he used those big emotions to spark his creativity, exposing his vulnerability and sharing the deepest part of him with the world. My respect for that is infinite. If anyone reading can catch this exhibit while on tour, I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Anyhoo, I can’t spend a day in the City and not be inspired by Her, so …

City Girl In The Rearview

The magic of the City
Isn’t in the mesmerizing
Bright lights view from
My rose-colored glasses
But in the scattered fragments
Of the once-free-spirited girl
I can still see through Her eyes

  1. Beautiful! It resonates with me deeply. I miss ” that girl” so much. You have a talent for touching a soul for sure.

  2. So evocative. I can definitely relate to feeling wistful and wondering about the free-spirited girl in my own rear-view mirror, despite the many joys of the present.
