Broken

Poetry challenge day 7: Write a universal poem. Life burns us all sometimes, but that doesn’t mean we must lie down among the ashes.

Broken

A little boy drops from a wall
He hurts his right-side ankle
A week goes by, and still he cries
The damage lies far deeper

A wary girl can’t find her place
She tends to play the victim
Love and resentment stain her face
And hound her ever after

A weary man sets off for work
He loops on autopilot
The passion he once had is lost
His path from here uncertain

A lonely woman burns from woe
She caves into her fears
The voices steal her sanity
A life whitewashed with shadow

Unlucky breaks beset us all
No shame in being broken
What makes the man is not the bow
But how tall we stand up after
