April 2021 Poem-A-Day Challenge, Day 29
For this penultimate prompt of my poetry challenge, we’re writing an evening poem. My interpretation is a little … out of the box, maybe? Not sure why my mind went here, but that’s the beauty of poetry. It takes you on a creative journey into realms you otherwise may not allow yourself to roam.
Ancient Evenings
Buried deep within my mind’s eye
Swirl visions of a contented you and I
Rumpled and faded with age
Reminiscent of long years gone by
Strolling at the ocean’s edge
Bony hands white knuckling mine
Not in fear, but exaltation
Our newfound freedom so divine
The light beckons, swallows cry
A life well lived, we two as one
In sweet surrender, sweet relief
Our journey’s ended, a new begun
